The capital of India, Delhi blends an historic past and a vibrant present. The Imperial city planned for the British by Lutyens is set in parks and shaded avenues. Legend has it that Delhi, then called Indraprastha, was originally founded around 1200 B.C. by the Pandavas, the august heroesof the epic Mahabharata. Present day Delhi is built around the ruins of seven ancient cities.
Rashtrapati Bhawan:
This is the official residence of the President of India. The Rashtrapati Bhavan is an awe-inspiring complex, which was designed by Lutyens in the early 1900s. The palace-like building is a blend of Western and Mughal architectural styles; the most obvious Indian feature being the huge copper dome. It is believed to be inspired by the Buddhist stupa at Sanchi. There is a huge courtyard in the front and a lush garden towards the back. The garden is spread over a 130 acre area and is very popular with the tourists. It is open to the public only in February. Rashtrapati Bhawan

India Gate:
India Gate Built as a memorial to commemorate the 70,000 India soldiers killed in World War I, India Gate was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1931.

India Gate is constructed as a memorial and was built in the memory of 90,00 soldiers who laid down their lives during world war I. Located at Rajpath, India Gate is 42 m high and is popular relaxation area during the summer evenings. India Gate also act as popular pinic spot during winter. Also known as the All India War Memorial, India Gate was designed and constructed by Lutyens. He was the who is considered the chief proclaimer in designing the New Delhi plans.
Red Fort:
Red Fort Built during the reign of Shah Jahan, the Lal Qila (or Red Fort) has been a mute witness to innumerable conspiracies, scandals, battles..... Completed in a span of nine years, it cost about ten million rupees , with about half the sum going towards the building of palaces.

One of the most spectacular pieces of Mughal Architecture is the Lal Quila or the Red Fort. Built by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan between 1638 and 1648, the Red Fort has walls extending up to 2 kms. in length with the height varying from 18 mts. on the river side to 33 mts. on the city side.
Purana Qila (Old Fort):
Purana Qila (Old Fort) The Old Fort, also known as the Purana Qil'ah or Purana Qila in Hindi, is one of the most famous monuments in Delhi, India. The fort was constructed in the 16th-century by the founder of the Sur Dynasty, Sher Shah Suri. The fort's unique Mughal-Hindu-Afghan architecture makes it a popular tourist destination in Delhi. However, in recent years, the fort has also attracted a lot of attention of archaeologists. Recent archaeological evidence suggests that the historic city of Indraprastha once stood where the Old Fort is today.
Parliament House:
Parliament House The center of political activity of India, the largest democracy in the world, the Parliament House is the sitting house of the elected members of India. Located in the heart of the city, on the left of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, this beautiful circular structure is one of the finest examples of the British architectural richness.
Jantar Mantar, Delhi:
Jantar Mantar, Delhi Built in 1725, Jantar Mantar is one of the five observatories built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. The observatory is dominated by a massive sun-dial known as the 'Prince of Dials'. It also has other instruments which determine the course of heavenly bodies, the paths of stars and predict eclipses.
Humayun's Tomb:
Humayun's Tomb The mughals brought with them a love for gardens, fountains and water. The first mature example of Mughal architecture in India, Humayun's Tomb was built by the emperor's grieving widow, Haji Begum, in 1565 AD.

Taj Mahal is known have been inspired by Humayun's Tomb, and in many ways this magnificent red and while building is as spectacular as the famous Taj Mahal in Agra. Tomb is memorial by a grieving wife and was built by his widow Haji Begum in 1565-66, nine years after his death
Chandni Chowk:
Chandni Chowk Chandni Chowk, or 'Moonlight Square' is the most famous and historic street of Delhi, built around 300 years ago when the walled city of Shahjahanabad was established in the 17th century. The 'Trafalgar Square' of Delhi, Chandni Chowk is widely known for its century old heritage and meeting point of different cultures and traditions over the centuries. At present the street is a busy thoroughfare with its traditional framework of several 'Kuchas and Katras' (alleys) housing traditional Havelis, innumerable places of worship, popular specialized markets and century-old eating joints, known for their specialties not only in the capital but worldwide.
Akshardham Temple:
Akshardham Temple The Akshardham Temple in Delhi, is the latest tourist attractions in India. Situated on the banks of Yamuna river, the temple was inaugurated on November 7, 2005. The temple constructed under the patronage of the Bochasanvasi Aksharpurushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), spreads over an area of 100 acres. The mega Akshardham Temple complex has well maintained lawns, adorned with water fountains and carved pavilions. The Akshardham temple is considered as one of the wonders of modern India.
Birla Mandir (Laxmi Narayan Temple):
Birla Mandir (Laxmi Narayan Temple) Popular as the Birla Mandir, the Laxminarayan Temple was built by the Birla family in 1938, encompassed by a large garden and fountains behind it. The temple attracts thousands of devotees on Janmashtami day, the birthday of Lord Krishna. The Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, was assassinated in this temple complex in 1948.

By Air: Delhi is well connected with major cities in India by Indian Airlines. Other private Airlines like Damania Airlines, East West Airlines, City Link Airlines also connect Delhi with Calcutta, Bombay etc.
By Bus: Delhi is at the intersection of several national highways and is well connected by regular bus services from Inter State bus terminal
By Train: Delhi is the headquarters of the Northern Railway and is the most well connected railhead both on broad guage (New Delhi) and meter guage (Delhi Main) railway line with all of the major places in India.
